One of the workmen spotted my wife wiping a smear with a common wood cleaner and gave her a stern warning. These were highly specialized factory-finish floors and they required special cleaners. He recommended Bona Hardwood Floor cleaner and we've been using it ever since.
It's a good cleaner and leaves a nice shine. We also have a special mop, I might add. We spray the cleaner on the floor lightly and then use the flattish mop to scrub and mop up any excess liquid. The floors come out amazingly nice looking. I might add that we have a small child (16 months) and you wouldn't believe some of the messes that have been cleaned up. The cleaner is expensive and can be hard to find at conventional stores. Finding it online presents no problems, however. We have the "engineered" wood floors installed on a poured-concrete substrate and the floor requires special care. We're very satisfied with the Bona Cleaner and hope the floors look like new for a long time.
